Project Description

“Culturally Wise” Counselling service

We promote mental health well-being by offering one to one cultural specific counselling support to those clients who have been affected by the challenges experienced in life. Counselling helps clients to tell their story in a safe place where the person can identify and understand the experiences that have caused the client to become distressed. Below are some of the key issues we proactively work with:

  • Substance Misuse

  • Surviving trauma and disaster

  • Bereavement and Loss

  • Domestic Abuse

  • Surviving Incest and Sexual Abuse

  • Cultural issues

We provide one to one counselling support and workshop interventions adhering to the NICE guidelines. We follow the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy  (BACP) code of ethics and are dedicated to facilitate positive outcomes by working with clients who come from emerging communities such as the Romanian, Polish, Turkish, Kurdish, Iranian, Afghanistan and the Syrian BAME population who are underrepresented.

Al-Hurraya has Specialist Counsellors working with clients who have experienced mental health issues related to experiencing trauma, substance misuse, loss, financial deprivation, adapting to societal change and language barriers.

Al-Hurraya also provides online counselling support via Skype sessions, one to one counselling providing Person-centred counselling within a solution focused setting. We motivate clients as we adhere to positive psychology implementing motivational techniques to support the client to achieve positive changes.

Al-Hurraya also provide one to one and group counselling to children who present with challenging behaviours and have had adverse childhood experiences. We support refugees who have experienced trauma and suffer from symptoms of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder.

At Al-Hurraya we use the person-centered model of counselling. This approach means we don’t judge you or ever tell you what to do. Instead we listen and try and see things from your point of view, while providing support to help you find your own answers. We are “Culturally Wise” and provide culturally specific counselling.

Everything you say will be treated confidentially. We will only ever share what you say with another person if we are worried that you and/or another young person may be at risk. Your counsellor will explain our confidentiality policy to you at your first session.
